About the Horse Crisis Register

The Horse CRISIS register was set up after the February 2009 Victorian bush fires.  PHHWV quickly received many offers from property owners in non bushfire affected areas who wanted to offer help to horses in need; however there was not a central fully-automated way of doing this.  To address this problem PHHWV created the Victorian Horse Crisis Register.

The purpose of this register is to record the details of people offering temporary agistment, temporary horse care, transport or emergency evacuation services in the event of an emergency fire, flood or similar devastating situation.  Any member of the public that may need this assistance can view this register and contact the person offering assistance directly.

Please note that PHHWV does not accept any liability with arrangements made via this register. PHHWV is merely offering a service to link people to offers of help during a crisis.  Any arrangements made for the transportation and care of horses via this register are between the two parties, NOT PHHWV.  PHHWV highly recommends that full enquiries and verification is made by each party before entering into any agreements, either verbal or in writing.

At this stage this service is limited to Victoria, however if there are groups from other states that wish to fund and provide the necessary information to be included in this register we would be happy to include you.  Please contact PHHWV at info@horsecrisisregister.org.au for further information.

How the Victorian Horse Crisis Register Works:

Offering Help
You will need to create an account with your details; once this is done an email is sent for you to activate your account.  Once your account is activated you can then register your offer of help.
The register is divided into three sections - you can register in one, two or all three of the sections.

Section One – Offer of Transport

This section is for people who are in a position to offer the transportation of horses.  You will need to nominate the distance you are prepared to travel from your home to transport horses.

Section Two – Emergency Evacuation
This section is for people who are in a position to offer a home to a horse for a short period of time i.e. 24/48 hours CODE RED (Catastrophic) Day has been declared by the Victorian authorities and /or people have been given the order to evacuate in the event of fire or of a flood.

Section Three – Temporary Agistment and Care
This section is for people who are in a position to offer agistment and care for horses that are affected by a disaster and can not return to their home in the near future.  Time frame on this varies but is generally for minimum of one month.

Updating Information
Once you have registered and listed your offer you can make changes to your listing by simply logging into your account.  You can also inactivate your listing without deleting all your information if you are going to be away or unable to assist for a period of time.  It is important for this register to work effectively that you keep your listings up to date with what you can offer.  This will save unwanted phone calls from people needing help.

Viewing Register Listings
Anyone can view and print a listing on the register at anytime without registering, simply by entering information into the Search Criteria fields.  You can narrow down your searches by postcode, town and municipality.  It is important to note that people offering assistance can change their offers regularly so we recommend you check the register for up to date listing regularly.
Registering offers of help are for crisis situations only and can not be used to simply move a horse or gain agistment.  Please report any misuse of this register via e-mail info@horsecrisisregister.org.au or 1300 881 606.  Any identified misuse of this register will result in the deletion of related listings.
